Soaking in natural hot springs is the perfect complement to any adventurous day in Colorado. There are many hot springs in Colorado, but in this list, we’ll focus on the 9 best hot springs near Denver. All of these hot springs are great destinations for locals as well as visitors looking to stay close to the city. 

I live in Denver and have visited the majority of the hot springs listed on this guide. I’ll share what to expect at each resort, overview the available amenities, and give tips on how to have the best experience.

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs

There are so many fun things to do in Buena Vista, one of the most popular day trips from Denver. Whether planning to hike, raft, or simply explore downtown, the nearby hot springs are a great itinerary inclusion. 

Mount Princeton Hot Springs is a high-end hot springs resort featuring various pools and amenities for all types of visitors. There’s a family-friendly atmosphere and children will love the 400-foot water slide. The creekside hot springs are my favorite place to soak, and many enjoy the spa and infinity pools’ private rental options. Spa treatments and fitness classes are also available, as are dining and lodging.

Hot Sulphur Springs Resort & Spa houses some of my favorite hot springs near Denver. The historic hot springs have been used for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. The Ute tribe first discovered the seven natural springs that now feed 21 man-made pools. The hot springs water in each soaking pool varies in temperatures ranging from 95-112 °F. 

Lodging at the resort includes access to the mineral-rich hot springs. Booking a Swedish or deep tissue massage comes with one hour of complimentary soaking, too. Relax and enjoy the beauty of the Rocky Mountains at one of the state’s best hot springs resorts, located just 2 hours from Denver.

Compared to other hot springs near Denver, The Springs Resort & Spa requires the furthest drive. However, those willing to make the trip to Pagosa Springs won’t be disappointed. They’re some of the best hot springs in Colorado featuring a series of 25 private soaking pools along the San Juan River. The natural hot springs pools are fed by the Mother Spring, the deepest geothermal spring in the world. 

Visitors can purchase day passes to experience the hot springs resort. Alternatively, an overnight stay includes hot springs access. The resort features spa services, wellness classes, fine dining, poolside drink service, and more.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs

There are several great hot springs near Denver, but my personal favorite is Strawberry Park Hot Springs. Regardless of the season, it’s one of the best things to do in Steamboat Springs. 

Compared to other hot springs resorts, this Steamboat Springs attraction is more rustic. Set in the beautiful Routt National Forest, it’s harder to access with 4×4 driving required in the winter. Families are welcome, but in the evenings, visitors must be 18+ years of age as clothing is optional. Those looking to spend the night can pitch a tent or book a private cabin on the property.

Of all the natural hot springs near Denver, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort is the most accommodating to the whole family. Located in Glenwood Springs, it’s famed for having the world’s largest mineral water pool. Simultaneously, it acts as a lap pool for athletes and a playground for children. 

In the summer months, kids can ride the large water slide into the main hot springs pool. Three additional water slides can be found at “Hanging Lake,” a shallow pool area featuring a waterfall. Shoshone Chutes, a rafting-type experience, is another family-friendly attraction at Glenwood Hot Springs.

Iron Mountain Hot Springs offers a more private, quieter hot springs experience in Glenwood Springs. Featuring 16 natural hot springs, visitors can jump from pool to pool, enjoying different views of the Colorado River. 

But still, this hot springs resort is family-friendly. Parents will love supervising from the elevated whirlpool spa as children splash in the large freshwater family pool. Plus, a cafe is located on-site, making meals easy and convenient.

Located in Idaho Springs, Indian Hot Springs are the closest hot springs to Denver. Their main hot springs pool is encased within a glass dome. It acts as a sort of greenhouse, creating a warm, humid atmosphere that allows the tropical plants surrounding the pool to thrive. 

Those seeking privacy can reserve an indoor bath or outdoor jacuzzi. Adults may opt for a clothing-optional experience inside the unique geothermal caves on site. Spa services and accommodations are also available, including resort rooms and cabin rentals.

Compared to Strawberry Park Hot Springs, Old Town Hot Springs in Steamboat Springs is more accommodating to children. It features multiple pools including a shallow kiddie pool. From two slides and a climbing wall, kids can also splash into the main hot springs pool. 

Adults will appreciate the lap pool and three private hot springs, as well as the massage services and large fitness center. Conveniently located in downtown Steamboat Springs, these hot springs are a great stop after a day on the ski slopes.

Tucked away in the San Isabel National Forest, Cottonwood Hot Springs is a nature lover’s paradise. These mineral hot springs near Buena Vista vary in size and temperature. After a sweltering soak or visit to their dry sauna, you’ll appreciate a dip in the cold plunge pool. 

The resort promotes total relaxation, encouraging a quiet, technology-free atmosphere. Cottonwood is also highly eco-conscious, using natural energy and sustainable building materials. You can book spa treatments as well as an overnight stay in their lodge, private cabins, or available campsites.
