My Review
With a high price tag comes high expectations, and when visiting Paris, the vision for luxury is grand. But a 5-star hotel doesn’t always deliver a 5-star stay.
My first impression of the Hotel Regina Louvre was positive. The lavish decor and elegant touches in the lobby and hotel bar caught my eye immediately. I was delighted when the bellhop so graciously took our bags, and the front desk staff were as inviting as could be, clearly trained to be professional and polite to their guests. Notably so, it’s across the street from the Louvre.
As we made our way to our second-floor room, the man escorting us apologized for the construction noises. “It’s not our building, but the one next to us, so there is nothing we can do,” he said with a sympathetic look. We thought little of the remark. The halls had been quiet so far, and everything seemed up to par.

We entered our room and instantly admired the sheer size of it. It was basically two rooms divided by a curtain that could be drawn to expand the space into one giant room. The decor was underwhelming, the carpet outdated, and the fluorescent lighting was a bit jarring. It wasn’t quite what we expected considering the price, but we put our money on the view.
We opened the curtains expecting a pristine view of the Eiffel Tower and the surrounding cityscape. What we got was a massive building covered in scaffolding and construction workers banging away. The Eiffel Tower was a mere speck in the distance, largely overshadowed by the construction site.
The “premium” toiletries featured a generic brand that can be found in any Parisian drugstore, according to our local guide, Rachel. She raised her eyebrows and explained how our previous, much more budget-friendly hotel offered a higher-end brand. That surprised me. However, the tub was clean and spacious, and the bathroom was solid overall.
Our bed was massive – a California King – but not very comfortable. While getting ready to sleep, we noticed that our A/C was broken. When I called the front desk for assistance, they said all they could do was bring us a fan, which helped a bit. We were surprised by how many things went wrong during our brief stay!
We didn’t have time to use the wellness center, but it did look luxurious when we checked it out. A sauna and spa day would’ve certainly been a treat here. The hotel gym was also one of the nicer ones I’ve seen. There’s no question that the Hotel Regina offers great amenities.
I expected something truly special for the price tag of the Hotel Regina Louvre. What I got was pleasant, but nothing out of the ordinary. If I were traveling with my family and prioritized the amenities of my stay, I think I’d have felt a lot more fulfilled by the hotel. And once the construction is finished (definitely ask about it if you plan to book here), that issue won’t exist.
We had a budget experience for a luxury price tag, but I believe that won’t be the case for most visitors. Our unfortunate combination of loud construction and a broken A/C made us flustered. But had those non-permanent factors been absent, we would have thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel Regina Louvre.

About the Location
The Hotel Regina Louvre is located in the 1st arrondissement, which is quite literally the center of Paris. It’s across the street from the Louvre, one of the most famous museums in the world, as well as the Tuileries Garden, where you can stroll or have a picnic.
There are tons of shops and restaurants around the hotel. It’s in a fairly touristy area, so you’ll see a lot of souvenir shops and street vendors. Take care of your belongings while exploring the nearby gardens and the Louvre. I didn’t feel unsafe here, but there’s definitely a wilder crowd than the quieter neighboring areas.
The hotel is located on the corner of a busy intersection, so it’s a bit loud if your room faces the street (which mine did). However, the double-paned windows do a pretty good job of keeping out the sound. You can see the metro station from the lobby doors, and taxis abound in this bustling area. Travel to further Paris attractions such as the Eiffel Tower or the Catacombs, is a breeze.

Things to Note
⚠️ The family suite includes a pull-out couch, but you can also order a rollaway bed if you want to fit more people in the room.
⚠️ You must request a view of the Eiffel Tower or Louvre, but availability is limited.
⚠️ The building across the street is under construction (as of April 2025), which may affect the quality of your stay. Call ahead to ask about the status before you book.

We booked the junior suite corner with Eifel Tower and garden views at the Regina. We also have booked the Solley 1 bedroom suite with inner courtyard views. Which is better for a Paris first timer? Normally outdoor space is important to us. We read your review about Regina and now we are concerned.
Hi Mary, I don’t want to totally put you off on the Regina Louvre! The location is fantastic, and the rooms are huge. But I recommend calling to see if the building across the street is still under construction. We also booked a room with Eiffel Tower views, and I have to say that the construction blocking the view was quite an eyesore. However, I think the Eiffel Tower views would be worthwhile without that, so call them about it when you can!
I absolutely loved the balcony space at the Solly. Our room faced the rooftops of Paris, so I’m not sure what the courtyard views are like, but I bet they’re lovely. The French doors opening up to the little outdoor table were the highlight of my stay there – nothing beats coffee with a view above the bustling city.
I honestly think both hotels are great for a first-timer in Paris. The Regina is in the ideal location right across from the Louvre and Tuileries, and walking distance to many more incredible Paris attractions. The Solly is a bit farther from those things, but still in a very accessible spot. It’s just a bit quieter, which some people prefer.
In case you need help planning your trip, our local Parisian, Rachel, creates custom Paris itineraries. She guided me around Paris for a week, and let me tell you, I’ve never had such a full, well-rounded travel experience anywhere else in the world. Rachel knows Paris like the back of her hand, so check out her itineraries if you’re interested!
I’m so glad I found your review for the Regina Hotel. Did you stay in their Family Suite, that is advertised at two bedrooms and two bathrooms? The pictures from their website make it look like it has a living room with balcony. Just wondering if this is indeed in the Family Suite. And if you stayed in their family suite, what was the bed size in the second bedroom? Thanks for your help!
Hi Juli! We stayed in the Eiffel Tower Suite, which is configured for 3 people.
Upon looking at the website, I, too, am a bit confused by which photos correspond to which rooms. I had the same issue while booking! I believe there are several types of family suites (some have 2 baths, some only 1), so I recommend reaching out to the hotel for specific photos of the rooms you’re thinking of booking, just to clear up any confusion! From what I can see, you can select the master to have a king bed or two twins.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with. I’d be happy to tell you more about our stay!
