My Review

The Hôtel Académie Saint-Germain location is unbeatable, and the accommodations are very clean and comfortable. You can walk or metro to the greatest attractions in Paris in no more than 20 minutes. Perhaps the best thing about this boutique hotel is the incredible staff.

Patricia, the front desk attendant, and Anna, the chef, greeted us by name every time we came through the lobby. They offered tips for where to eat/what to do near the hotel, which were all stellar recommendations. And they made sure we had everything we needed to be happy. I don’t know if I’ve ever encountered such attentive staff!

Our classic room was extremely comfortable, though not necessarily luxurious. It was small, which was difficult for my 6’3 boyfriend, who occasionally stooped to avoid hitting his head on the lights or TV. You can book larger suites, though, when available. That being said, the birdcage lamps, French windows, flowing drapes, and classical artwork all gave the place a feeling so undeniably French. Oh, and the beds were super comfy!

My main qualm was the lack of air conditioning. The whole building is either set to cold or hot mode. We visited before the summer switch, so our individual thermostat didn’t offer any relief from the mid-afternoon sun. Even with the spring breeze coming through the open windows, it was hard to get comfortable when the light shone directly into our suite.

The bathroom included a hair dryer and small amenity kits. The soap, shampoo, and conditioner by Fragonard is higher-end stuff according to our local Parisian expert, Rachel. We felt instantly refreshed after our 17-hour travel day to Paris.

The breakfast buffet prepared by Chef Anna was delightful. We feasted on warm croissants paired with a variety of French cheeses, spreads, and bacon. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The cappuccino machine and fresh-squeezed orange juice maker were the cherry on top of our meal. I think I had about 10 glasses of fresh OJ.

The Hôtel Académie Saint-Germain was everything we could’ve asked for as our perfect home base in Paris. The only reasons I deducted a star from my review are the small size of the rooms and the lack of business and fitness amenities.

❌ Cons

  • Rooms are small and harder to navigate for some guests

  • No business center, gym, or spa amenities

About the Location

The Hôtel Académie Saint-Germain is centrally located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, which is extremely close to some of the most popular sites like the Louvre, Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle, and the Luxembourg Gardens. You can walk to plenty of hotspots within 15 minutes. The Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe are a bit further, but the nearby metro station (4-minute walk) will get you there in a flash. Taxis are easily bookable on the G7 app.

You’ll find plenty of art galleries, restaurants, shops, and bars within minutes of the lobby. The famous Café de Flore and Les Deux Maggots are right around the corner. The street is fairly quiet as it is not on a main road. It felt very safe at all times of the day.
