My Review

I stayed in 12 hotels on my quest to find the best places to stay in Venice, and Hotel H10 Palazzo Canova is one of my top faves. This 4-star hotel is located right on the Grand Canal, mere steps away from the Rialto Bridge. Yet, because it’s on the San Polo side of the Rialto Bridge, not the San Marco side, there are noticeably fewer tourists. San Marco is crazy busy, whereas San Polo has some breathing room.

But of course, there’s more to this hotel than just a great location. I stayed in Room 112, a Superior Double Room with City View, and absolutely loved it. I could stay a week in this room and be happy as a clam. The room is very contemporary and could honestly be anywhere in the world, but it has little details that nod to Venice. The color scheme is one of those details; teal is for the water of the canals, gold is for the gold in St. Mark’s basilica, and black details pay homage to the gondolas.

And the room was oh-so-cozy. I had the best sleep of my entire stay in Venice in this bed, the shower had great water pressure and heat, and there were mosquito nets on the windows! The nets meant we could have the windows open at night for a breeze while not getting eaten alive by bugs. I also loved how neat and clean the room was in general.

But even if you don’t stay at H10 Palazzo Canova, you must go up to La Terrazza Rooftop Bar, located on the top floor of the hotel. I even put this bar as a stop in my 3-day Venice itinerary. This rooftop bar has incredible views of the Grand Canal, and you can even peep the Rialto Bridge from here. I recommend coming up here at sunset for a bevvy. It was kinda chilly while we were up there but they had heaters and blankets for us.

Speaking of food and drinks, the breakfast at the hotel was also top notch. They had a great selection of pastries, meats, cheese, yogurt, and cereals, plus a la carte coffee and hot meal options. I had some buffet options, a fried egg, and a cappuccino. 10/10.

Overall, I recommend this hotel for couples, groups of friends, or really anyone looking to be close to all the main sites of Venice, but removed enough to still have a relaxing, enjoyable stay.

About the Location

I think this hotel might just have the very best location in all of Venice. Located right on the Grand Canal in the district of San Polo, the H10 Palazzo Canova is close to all the main sites of San Marco (Piazza San Marco, Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge), but is far enough away to be removed from the throngs of tourists that crowd San Marco’s alleys.

San Polo is still busy, don’t get me wrong, but the tourism drops off a lot as you wander even a little bit away from the Grand Canal and deeper into the sestiere. It’s the best of both worlds, in my opinion.

Plus, being right on the Grand Canal, it’s easy to access transportation. There is a private water taxi station right outside the hotel, and the San Silvestro water bus station is just a 3-minute walk away.
