My Review
I stayed in 12 hotels in Venice on my mission to find the best places to stay in Venice, and I think Splendid Venice is one of the best if you only have a night or two in the city.
Splendid Venice is located right in the heart of San Marco, and is super close to all the major sites like St. Mark’s Square, St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, the Bridge of Sighs, the Rialto Bridge, and St. Mark’s Campanile. It’s also surrounded by shops, restaurants, and picturesque canals.
The downside of this location, however, is that it’s absolutely swarming with tourists. When I stayed here, there was constant foot traffic every time we stepped outside. It’s a good spot if you only have a night or two in the city and want to be in the thick of it, but the traffic is something to take into consideration.
The rooms themselves are very well designed, in my opinion. The decor is warm and inviting, and I think that, despite our Deluxe Double Room with Canal View being on the smaller side, the space was used really well. There is a designated luggage area and a large closet to put things. There are also plenty of mirrors in the room to make it feel bright and spacious.
But the best part of our room was absolutely the view! We stayed in room 311 and had a wonderful view of the canal. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to watch gondolas go by your window. It’s quintessentially Venice.
I also really liked the bathroom. It was very contemporary and had all modern appliances. I also really liked the design of the shower/tub and the towels. The towels were on a rack right by the tub so you didn’t have to worry about reaching to grab one.
For me, another major highlight of the hotel was the common areas. This is a rather large hotel for Venice and has 165 rooms, but they have plenty of common space to accommodate all these travelers. And the common areas are impeccably designed with bright colors, plenty of seating, and different rooms. These rooms are more like a series of parlour lounges, and there is a cocktail/coffee bar to fully help you enjoy the setting.
Speaking of common areas, I also really enjoyed the breakfast. It was a fairly standard buffet breakfast with pastries, juice, cereal, yogurt, cold cuts, and hot options. It was super busy when we went for breakfast (even early in the morning) but there was plenty of seating to accommodate.
Plus, the breakfast area becomes the in-house restaurant, Le Maschere, later in the day. This restaurant offers traditional Venetian food with plenty of seafood options.
Overall, I’d say that families, couples, and business travelers would enjoy Splendid Venice. Families will like it for being so close to the sites, business travelers will enjoy the many common areas, and couples will enjoy the great service and comfortable vibe.
If you only have a night or two in Venice and want to be as central as possible, consider Splendid Venice.

About the Location
Splendid Venice is located smack dab in San Marco, in the heart of Venice. This is the main tourist area of the city and the hotel is super close to all the main sites of Venice, including Piazza San Marco, Doge’s Palace, and the Rialto Bridge.
The hotel has its own private water taxi dock and is about a 5-minute walk from the Rialto water bus (vaporetto) station. If you take the water bus, be prepared to lug your baggage up and down a few bridges, but it’s not too much of a jaunt.
Because of the central location, the walkways outside of the hotel are pretty much always congested with other travelers. This is one of the busiest parts of Venice. It’s not exactly a relaxing area, but rest assured you’re in the thick of the action.

Things to Note
⚠️ This site has been in continuous use as a hotel since the 1500s, when it was erected as the “Black Hat Inn.” It’s been fully renovated multiple times since then, of course, and even got a full makeover around 2007/2008.
