📚 What was Your Favorite Travel Experience or Story?
I spent a year as an English teaching assistant in France through TAPIF. I had an amazing time trying out delicious food, hiking, skiing, and generally enjoying French culture.
When I returned home to Mississippi to teach middle school language arts the following year, I realized I didn’t have to stop having travel experiences. I made a bucket list of everything I wanted to do and see in my home state. I started driving 45 minutes to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to watch the sunset over the water after work, went kayaking on nearby rivers, and made road trip plans with friends.
After moving to Nashville several years ago, I have a new area to explore and a new local bucket list. I still take every chance to hop on a plane to a far-away destination, but I love having the time to discover every hidden gem that’s nearby as well.
🗺️ What’s Your #1 Expert Travel Tip?
Keep a toiletry bag packed with all the travel-sized essentials you need, and replace any items you use up after each trip. Get a second toothbrush, an extra bottle of contact solution, and whatever else you’re always rushing around to stick in your bag right before you leave. If you’re trying to squeeze in trips on the weekends and on holidays, it’s so much easier to pack quickly if you can just grab a pre-packed toiletry bag plus a change of clothes and go.
