My Review

My stay at the Montrose was very pleasant. The hotel sported chic furniture and fun, contemporary artwork in the rooms and shared spaces. The rooftop pool was small, but the setting was absolutely gorgeous. I loved the aesthetic of the striped cabanas and swinging egg chairs. And the panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills and Downtown LA were unreal.

The location is ideal when it comes to where to stay in LA, especially since you can walk to many popular areas. Walkability in LA cannot be taken for granted!

My favorite part of the stay was the rooftop tennis court. I am not a tennis player (and after an hour on the court, it’s clear I never will be), but my boyfriend and I rented racquets from the front desk for the heck of it. We had a blast playing with a view of downtown as the sun set behind the Hollywood Hills. It felt like a scene from a movie.

The Montrose didn’t have a hot tub, which would have been so enjoyable beside the rooftop pool, but there was a communal fire pit to warm up the chilly evening. There was also no spa. The gym was quite basic, and I think it’d get too cramped to work out there with more than two guests present. Other than that, the amenities were great.

Our room was very large with a bedroom and bathroom separate from the living area and kitchenette. It felt a lot more like an apartment than a hotel, which might appeal to visitors who intend on a longer stay. The king bed was super comfy, and the living area with a pull-out queen sofa would make a great space for hanging out with a group.

The balcony was small and didn’t offer as good a view as they try to sell on the website, but it was still nice to have an outdoor space to enjoy the weather. However, we were better off enjoying the sunshine in one of the rooftop spaces.

While the stay was lovely, the hotel was very pricey. We had to valet our car for $70 per night (street parking was extremely limited). The on-site restaurant, bar, and coffee shop offered a good variety of options, but all of them were so expensive. I don’t know if you could swing a meal for two for under $60. Forget about the in-room mini bar and snack shelf!

The wonderful staff made up for the lofty price tag. Dante at the bar and Odie at the front desk were especially kind and went out of their way to elevate our experience. I so appreciate an attentive staff; they make or break the experience!

***

My time at the Montrose was lovely. The rooftop pool and tennis court were truly something special, and the city views were picture-perfect.

About the Location

I absolutely loved the location of the Montrose at Beverly Hills. It’s situated in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by beautiful designer homes, but it’s only a 5-minute walk to all of the action in West Hollywood and the famous Sunset Strip. A quiet stay can be hard to find in Los Angeles, but this location was so peaceful.

I felt very safe walking in this neighborhood, though I didn’t get the chance to at night. I would advise being cautious after dark since there are a few rowdy bars and clubs in the area.
