Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Calgary (My Review)

Published: April 20, 2026
My Review
As a first-time visitor to Calgary and a solo traveller without a vehicle, I was looking for a central, Downtown hotel with convenient access to public transportation. I didn’t want to go super budget for my stay. I was in the mood to treat myself!
The Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Calgary ended up ticking all of these boxes, climbing to the top of my list of the best places to stay in Calgary.
I arrived at the hotel early, hours before the 4 pm check-in, and I was prepared to drop my bags and go grab lunch. But my room was ready, and I was given the keys right away. After an early flight, this was a godsend.
The service was definitely one of the highlights of my stay. Kathlyn checked me in, and she was so warm and professional whenever I saw her. She even took the time to explain what kind of weather I could expect during my stay since spring is a special time of year, weather-wise, in Calgary. Another staff member also kindly helped me charge my phone after I had checked out.
My 7th-floor room was sleek and modern, with a large bathroom, spacious workspace, and comfy sofa. Plus, I had a fantastic view of the city! I loved everything about this room, and the bed was honestly one of the best I’ve slept in. It was so warm and comfortable, and the pillows were perfectly firm! In fact, I think I’m going to purchase the pillows and duvet from their online shop!
The location is amazing, right in the city centre, and within walking distance to the top attractions and neighborhoods. Normally, I’m early to bed, but I did go out every night while I was in Calgary, and the hotel was only a couple of minutes’ walk from the C-Train and bus stops, so I always felt safe walking back in the dark.
I love how the Courtyard by Marriott is connected to its sister hotel, The Dorian, and the two offer shared amenities. The fitness centre is there for those who like to work out while on holiday (not me!). But more importantly, you’ll find some of Calgary’s best dining right here. I regularly started my mornings in the Prologue Café and treated myself to a delicious lunch with a view at the Wilde on 27.
All in all, I could not have asked for a better stay at The Courtyard by Marriott. I don’t often get the opportunity to stay in nice hotels, so this was a wonderful experience for me. I loved my time in the city and plan to visit again. The Courtyard by Marriott will definitely be my go-to in Calgary.

About the Location
I couldn’t have asked for a better location to stay in during my trip to Calgary. I did not have a car, so I took the public airport bus (# 300) to and from this hotel. The airport bus stop is across the street. It was easy to find the hotel when I arrived, and I really appreciated the proximity to the stop when I was going back to the airport, as it was snowing.
I also took public transportation for some of my sightseeing. The hotel is two blocks away from the C-Train station (I could see it from my room window), and near several bus stops. I went out a lot at night and loved that I didn’t have to walk too far in the dark.
This hotel is within walking distance of most of the top attractions. The closest of the big sights are the CORE Shopping Centre, Stephen Ave., and the Devonian Gardens. And it is connected to the +15 Skywalk network. So, if the weather is not cooperating, you don’t even have to leave the hotel!
Being in the center of Downtown Calgary, the area is bustling during the day, and you’ll find lots of people around. But because it’s in the city’s business center, the area is much quieter at night. Unfortunately, Calgary has many issues with homelessness and drug addiction, and you will see evidence of this on the streets and in the parking lots around the hotel.
