My Review
I stayed in 12 hotels on my quest to find the best places to stay in Venice, and the 5-star Baglioni Hotel Luna is by far the best for luxury travelers. This “leading property of the world” provides exemplary service and accommodations from the moment you step over the threshold.
Starting with the service, my mom and I were greeted with big smiles from the moment we arrived. Even though we were a few hours early for check-in, our room was ready, and the porter took us right up to room 505, a Junior Suite with Lagoon View.

My first impression of the room was, of course, “wow,” as I took in the lush furnishings of gold and maroon. The “wow” factor only grew as I crossed the room and saw the lagoon view from the large windows, a view that I don’t think I could ever tire of. No matter where you place your gaze in the Baglioni, there really isn’t a bad sight in the house.
The room was very comfortable, too. The large bed was perfectly firm, yet plush, and multiple pillows accommodate any preference. There were also extra pillows and blankets in the room just in case. Oh, and I wasn’t hating the complimentary bottle of prosecco that the staff left for us in the room at check-in!
The bathroom was so spacious and had marble countertops. I loved that the shower was separate from the tub, and that section was also separate from the toilet and bidet. Overall, the bathroom was just very private, but there were also awesome views of the lagoon from there as well. Oh, and the toiletry line, Acqua di Parma, was top-of-the-line. My hair smelled so good after using the shampoo and conditioner.
We added breakfast to our stay, and let me tell you, the Marco Polo Ballroom was the most gorgeous dining room of my life. There’s nothing like dishing up at a mimosa bar underneath 18th-century frescoes!
Plus, the breakfast buffet is truly comprehensive. There are pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurts, cereals, salads, and hot options, as well as a full menu and à la carte picks. So many flavors… so little room in my stomach.
Speaking of food, my mom and I had dinner at the in-house restaurant Santo Mare, and oh my gosh, it was one of the best meals I had in Venice. My gnocchi was cooked to al dente perfection, and my mom raved about her lobster tagliatelle. Oh, and the fact that they made our dessert — tiramisu — right at our table was literally icing on the cake.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel for any luxury traveler wanting to treat themselves in Venice. I’d also recommend this to couples, and in particular, honeymooners, looking for a particularly romantic stay. You’ll be treated like royalty at the Baglioni Hotel Luna.
Pros & Cons
✔️ Pros
- Spacious room
- Awesome view
- High-end toiletry line
- On-site restaurant
- Great location near Piazza San Marco
- Wonderful buffet breakfast with a la carte options
❌ Cons
- No USB ports in the room (super nitpicky, but was standard among other Venice hotels I stayed at)
- Air conditioning wasn’t on in March, so it got uncomfortably warm in the room at night
About the Location
The Baglioni Hotel Luna is perfectly situated in San Marco. It’s literally just steps away from St. Mark’s Square, so you can be at Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Basilica, St. Mark’s Campanile, and the Bridge of Sighs in less than a minute. The hotel is also surrounded by luxury shopping and restaurants.
And still, the Baglioni is tucked on a street that, while not totally devoid of other people, is noticeably less busy than the surrounding alleyways. This keeps the hotel nice and quiet, and most of the other people outside the hotel will be fellow guests.
The hotel has a private water taxi station, but is also about 5 minutes away from the San Marco vaporetto (water bus) stop. So getting around Venice couldn’t be easier from this location.
I would say that the district of St. Mark’s is overall the busiest of all of Venice, as it’s where all the main sites are. Still, if you want to be near the main sites and have an extremely convenient trip to Venice, you really can’t beat the Baglioni.

Things to Note
⚠️ Overall, the Baglioni Hotel Luna was the best smelling hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life. They must either spritz a scent in the hallways or maybe even pump in a scent through the vents. It wasn’t strong enough to cause a headache, but I wanted to bask in this smell forever.
⚠️ The Baglioni Hotel Luna is believed to be the oldest hotel in Venice! The hotel is located in a 12th-century palazzo that once held refuge for the Knights Templar.
