Hi! I (F43) and my 10 yr old son will be travelling to Denver from another state in November for a broncos game. I am hoping you can help with advice on a safe area downtown to stay, that we can easily access restaurants, get to the stadium and find some fun things to do. I am hoping not to have a car. My main concern is mostly safety as a female and child traveling alone. Thanks for any advice you may have!

Hi, Jill. I'm a Denver local (who's also a Broncos fan!) and am happy to help. Since you would rather not rent a car, I would recommend using the light rail as your primary mode of transportation. That will get you from the airport to your downtown hotel and just outside of Empower Field. This guide further discusses the city's light rail system and links to the RTD website:  https://travellemming.com/getting-around-denver/#light-rail

As for your hotel, I would recommend the Union Station neighborhood. Note that homelessness is prevalent in certain areas and just like in any city, I would recommend following general safety precautions. But several parts of downtown are lovely and in my opinion, safe for visitors. Namely, I would recommend The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block, a fun microdistrict with fantastic restaurants. I also recommend The Crawford Hotel which is located inside Union Station. You'll be literal steps from the light rail, yet the hotel is quiet, comfortable and has a historic elegance about it. Our local writer Laura shares more hotel suggestions in this guide:  https://travellemming.com/where-to-stay-in-denver-without-a-car/

Finally, see this guide for tons of fun things to do in the area:  https://travellemming.com/things-to-do-in-denver/ . With a 10-year-old, I especially recommend Meow Wolf which is right next to the stadium.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions and have a wonderful stay in the Mile High!
