When I traveled to Singapore for the first time, I had no idea what to expect, and packing quickly became overwhelming. Over college winter break, my now-husband and I flew halfway around the world to spend five days exploring Singapore before cruising around Southeast Asia.

What I didn’t anticipate was just how intense the heat and humidity would be. On our first day, we decided to sightsee by walking all over the city – that was a huge mistake! Within an hour, my husband said to me, “I think your makeup is literally melting off!”  

Even still, we fell in love with the vibrant, melting pot culture of this bustling city-state. We couldn’t wait to return! Since then, I’ve traveled back to Singapore for two more visits with my family. After three trips, I’ve learned exactly what you need to pack to stay comfortable, beat the heat, and make the most of your time in Singapore.

Carry-On Luggage

I always recommend strategically packing a carry-on suitcase, especially if you’re taking multiple long-haul flights. My travel time was nearly 30 hours to Singapore, so having a change of clothes and cosmetics on hand made a huge difference.

After years of cheap luggage, I finally invested in the Bigger Carry-On from Away, and it’s the best suitcase I’ve ever owned! Sunscreen Stick

The UV index is normally high in Singapore, and the humidity can make it hard for sunscreen to stay on. One of the best items I packed was a sunscreen stick, which I kept in my purse and reapplied for sun protection throughout the day.  I will never travel without one now!

In addition, packing cubes help me stay organized throughout my trip. And before heading home, I simply toss all of my dirty clothes into one cube, making laundry easier when I return home.

Mini Travel Pharmacy

Regardless of where I’m traveling, I always pack a small pharmacy with a handful of over-the-counter medications. You never know when a headache, stomach issue, or cold will pop up. It’s best to be prepared for the worst-case scenario!

During my recent visit to Singapore, I was surprised to have light allergies with a runny nose and scratchy eyes. Instead of spending extra time and money at a pharmacy, I was grateful to have antihistamines already packed in my suitcase. This travel-sized medicine kit includes on-the-go packs for multiple different over-the-counter medications.

Apple AirPods

For long flights to Singapore, having a reliable pair of wireless headphones is crucial. I prefer these Apple AirPods, as they connect seamlessly to all of my Apple devices, including my phone, laptop, and tablet. The noise-cancelling feature is also a total game changer!

For overnight flights, I even use my Apple AirPods to play white noise while I attempt to sleep. These headphones are very comfortable, charge quickly, and stay powered for hours, making them perfect for travel. 

Handheld Fan

I’ve visited Singapore in fall, winter, and spring and one thing was consistent — the muggy weather! The country’s tropical location means you can expect warm temperatures and a muggy climate year-round. To keep cool while sightseeing, I recommend carrying a portable fan in your bag each day.

Portable Sound Machine

If you’re traveling to Singapore from North America or Europe, jet lag can be a real challenge. The time difference completely flips your schedule, so sleep is important to stay healthy and energized.

I always pack this Babelio white noise sound machine to help me sleep soundly every night. It’s compact enough for travel, yet the speaker is powerful enough to block out unwanted noise. This creates a calming environment wherever I’m sleeping. 

Type G Adapter

You’ll need to bring a Type G travel adapter for Singapore. This is the same plug as the United Kingdom and Ireland. If you’re coming from North America or most of Europe, your plugs won’t fit, so having the correct adapter is crucial to charge your devices. 

This travel adapter from TESSAN is the exact one that I packed on my trips to Singapore, and it worked like a charm! The adapter is easy to use and features multiple outlets, two USB ports, and one USB-C port. I could easily charge multiple devices at the same time.

Hydration Packets

After experiencing the intense heat on my first trip to Singapore, I made sure to bring a variety of hydration packets for future visits. You simply add the powder to your water for an instant boost of electrolytes and hydration. 

Each night, I would add a packet of LiquidIV to a bottle of water to stay hydrated throughout my trip. The flavors are delicious (especially passion fruit), and the packet size is ideal for travel. I even carried one packet in my purse during the day in case I needed a hydration boost while out in the heat.

Travel Umbrella

Each time I’ve visited Singapore, I’ve always encountered a little rain in the afternoon or evening. The country is located close to the equator, resulting in a tropical climate with heat, high humidity, and daily precipitation. Luckily, the rain showers usually don’t last long!

You should expect sudden thunderstorms and quick downpours during your stay, so it’s a good idea to be prepared with a compact umbrella. This Repel umbrella is compact for travel, highly rated, and built to withstand high winds. 

Portable Charger

Singapore’s public transportation is well maintained and easy to use. While wandering around the city, I used my phone constantly to navigate the public metro system. Not to mention, I love taking pictures on my phone while traveling! 

All that screen time quickly drained my battery, though, and I was constantly charging my phone to keep up. Having a portable battery in my purse was necessary. This small portable charger is easy to bring along for your daily adventures without taking up too much space in your bag.

Travel Pillow

I used to rely on the airline to provide a comfortable pillow for long international flights. However, I finally decided to invest in my own pillow for my long travel day to Singapore. This Peujew memory foam pillow was a lifesaver, and I actually managed to get some decent sleep on my flights.

Apple AirTag

Whenever I check a suitcase, I make sure to bring an Apple AirTag to track my belongings in real-time. For my journey to Singapore, I had three separate flights with two different airlines, and I wanted to monitor my luggage throughout the international journey. 

Being able to see the location of my suitcase with an Apple AirTag provided peace of mind, especially during a long travel day. If the airline lost my luggage, I would be able to see my suitcase’s exact location instantly.

Sleep Mask

If you’re hoping to sleep on your long-haul flights, having a sleep mask is a must! This plushy sleep mask from Yiview is my favorite, as it’s super soft and easily adjustable.

The memory foam design with 3D cutouts gently contours around your eyes, so there’s no pressure while you sleep. This sleep mask will elevate your in-flight experience if you’re hoping to sleep, and it takes up virtually no space in your personal item. It’s also great if you’re trying to nap during the afternoon while fighting jet lag!

Passport Holder

Whenever I travel with my passport, I always use this handy passport case and organizer. Makeup Setting Spray

During my first trip to Singapore, I quickly learned that my makeup was no match for the heat. Remember, my husband joked that my makeup was literally melting off my face! Now, I make sure to pack a setting spray to combat the muggy weather and inevitable sweating. 

If you’re planning to wear makeup while out and about in Singapore, a setting spray is a must-have. This e.l.f Dewy Coconut Mist and Setting Spray is my go-to product, as it provides a healthy glow and keeps your makeup from smudging. I also love the coconut smell!

Sunscreen

It’s crucial to pack sunscreen if you plan to spend time outside in Singapore. Whether you’re walking around Gardens by the Bay or spending the day at the pool in Sentosa Island, sunscreen will keep your skin protected from the harsh sun.

Clothing, Shoes, & Accessories to Pack for Singapore

If it hasn’t been clear already, Singapore’s tropical climate means you can expect warm, muggy weather year-round! Because of this, you should prioritize packing lightweight, breezy, and comfortable clothing. It’s almost guaranteed that you’ll work up a sweat, so it’s a smart choice to bring quick-dry and breathable fabrics.

Singaporeans tend to dress quite casually, so you won’t need to stress about adhering to strict local dress codes. For instance, tank tops, strapless dresses, and shorts are all perfectly acceptable. With the combination of heat and humidity, it’s also a good idea to pack a few extra outfits, as you may end up changing more often than you expect!

Comfortable Walking Shoes

Having comfortable walking shoes is a must-have for any trip, but especially if you plan to explore Singapore on foot. I personally love wearing white sneakers since they go with almost every outfit and still provide comfort and support. 

I’ll never travel without these white Hoka sneakers. I’ve been wearing these shoes for years, and they truly feel like walking on a cloud. I can easily log 20,000 steps in a day without sore feet or blisters. 

Women’s Athletic Skort

Athleisure outfits are perfect for visiting Singapore, as they’re breathable, versatile, and functional. Because of the heat, an athletic skort is my top choice for a laid-back outfit that looks effortlessly cute!

This double-ruffle athletic skort is an excellent option for visiting Singapore. You’ll look put together while staying cool in the heat, and the built-in shorts will prevent chafing for a full day of walking around the city. 

Men’s Linen Short Set

I love packing matching sets while traveling, especially linen material for hotter weather. Linen is naturally lightweight, moisture-wicking, and breathable, so it’s one of my favorite kinds of fabric to wear in Singapore. 

This matching linen set for men is a great option to add to your wardrobe. It’s highly rated, comes in multiple colors, and offers a relaxed, casual look.

Crossbody Bag

While Singapore is incredibly safe and I never worried about pickpocketing, I still prefer using a crossbody bag when traveling. It kept my essentials secure while wandering around the city, eating at the hawkers, or navigating public transportation. I also appreciated having my phone, wallet, and sunglasses within reach.

I prefer to bring affordable sunglasses when I travel rather than splurge on high-end, expensive brands. That way, it’s not a big deal when I inevitably lose or misplace my sunglasses during the trip.

So what clothing, shoes, and accessories should you pack for Singapore? Here is a quick clothing checklist for Singapore:

Seasonal Items to Pack for Singapore

Singapore has a warm, tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures between 75°F to 90°F (24°C to 32°C). Instead of four different seasons, there are two distinct monsoon seasons. This includes the wetter Northeast Monsoon season from December to March and drier Southwest Monsoon season from June to September. 

From November to early January, you can anticipate more precipitation with prolonged heavy rain. The months between February and April are typically considered pleasant with less rain and more sunshine. Regardless of when you visit Singapore, sudden downpours are common, so it’s smart to be prepared with rain gear. 

Here are recommendations for seasonal items or clothing you might need in Singapore:

Reusable Poncho

Instead of packing a disposable poncho or rain jacket, consider bringing a reusable poncho. You’ll stay dry during the monsoon seasons without overheating like you might in a traditional raincoat.

Singapore Packing Tips

Prepare for warm temperatures and muggy weather

You can expect Singapore to have a tropical climate all year with high temperatures and sticky, heavy air. I was shocked by the intense humidity during my first visit, so be prepared! Prioritize packing comfortable, breezy, and lightweight clothes. 

Always bring an umbrella

Rain is common in Singapore, and downpours can be unpredictable. However, the downpours can end quickly, especially for afternoon showers. Always pack an umbrella or poncho to stay dry while exploring the city. 

Don’t forget sunscreen

The maximum UV index can range from 9 to 11 throughout the year, so you’ll want to pack sunscreen to protect your skin. I prefer using a stick sunscreen to maintain protection even while sweaty. A tinted moisturizer or foundation can add extra protection against the strong sun.

Pack extra outfits or plan to do laundry

While visiting Singapore, I usually go through more outfits than I expected because of the heat. It’s a good idea to throw in a few extra outfits when you’re packing for this reason. Additionally, you can use self-service laundromats or see if your hotel in Singapore offers laundry services. 

Most people in Singapore dress casually

Comfort is more important than style in Singapore. Most locals dress casually with laid-back outfits because of the weather. I recommend wearing loose-fitting clothes and athletic skorts because of the breathable and moisture-wicking material. 

Review banned items that you shouldn’t pack 

Singapore has strict customs, regulations, and local laws, so it’s important to check the government’s list of prohibited items before you travel. Things like chewing gum, e-cigarettes, and chewing tobacco are banned in Singapore and cannot be brought into the country. Double-check your luggage before departure to avoid issues at customs.
