My Review
Want to stay in the former family home of a 14th-century nobleman? Then book yourself into the Palazzo Priuli! From the moment I arrived, I loved my stay here.
We actually checked in next door at Palazzo San Lorenzo (a sister property that manages the check-ins/outs) and were treated so well by all the staff. They were so helpful in assisting us in finding a good dinner spot, things to do in the area, and making sure we had all we needed for a comfortable stay.
I have to warn you, my room at Palazzo Priuli (Classic Room with Canal View) was a little bit small, but of course, they have different rooms for various party sizes. Still, of the 12 hotels I stayed at in my quest to find the best places to stay in Venice, this was easily the most charming and “old world Venice” hotel. I loved that they kept the original vaulted ceilings and wrought iron chandeliers.
Of course, the room was small but mighty. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom was as modern as they come (hello, rainfall shower head!), our room had a full desk, and I loved the classic artwork on the walls. Plus, being on the first floor, our window faced right onto a canal; there’s simply nothing like watching gondolas go floating by your bed.
After we checked in, we went upstairs to the food hall for afternoon refreshments – a wonderful amenity that the hotel offers. My mom and I had a quick snack and some flavored water before deciding to go and wander the area.
About the service, I think that it was really good. I liked that there was always someone there to help if we needed, but otherwise, I really didn’t see many hotel staff. We were largely left to our own devices to explore the property and check out the artwork lining the walls on our own time.
And the breakfast is really good! This is something to add on to your hotel stay, but there are a lot of food options. Upon first arriving in the breakfast room, I thought that the offerings were going to be just a small circular table of yogurts, cereals, and a few pastries, but I was oh-so wrong. Once I sat down at a table, the staff brought me a full spread of fruit, juices, and pastries. It was a lot (I tried my best, I really did), and very scrumptious!
Overall, I think couples and families should book the Palazzo Priuli. I saw quite a few families with kids at breakfast, and all the kids seemed to like it. There aren’t any family-specific amenities here, but the area of Castello has a lot of room to roam, as well as some parks.
Would I book the Palazzo Priuli again? Absolutely! I think this was a wonderful stay, and it was so cool to stay in a historic Venetian home.
Pros & Cons
✔️ Pros
- Great location in Castello
- Wonderful staff
- Really good wifi
- Felt like a historical home
❌ Cons
- Our room was pretty small and cramped, even for two people
- The pillows were a bit flat
About the Location
Palazzo Priuli is located in the district of Castello, which is right next door to San Marco. It’s not too far from all the main sites, but it’s noticeably less crowded than San Marco. We loved wandering the alleys and along the canals without hordes of tourists competing for good photo spots. I felt perfectly safe in this area, too.
We went to the bookstore Libreria Acqua Alta (overrated, in my opinion. Apparently this is where ALL the tourists go in Castello), and shopping. Honestly, if you have a case of the shoppies, Castello is probably the best district for you.
A bit of a downside is that the closest water bus station is a 5-minute walk away, so you will have to lug your bags to the hotel. However, the hotel does have a private water taxi station, so if you arrive by water taxi, you’ll have direct door service.

Things to Note
⚠️ When I arrived, there was a sign on the front door saying to check in next door at Palazzo San Lorenzo. This hotel was only a few steps away and is a sister property of Palazzo Priuli. Just mention which hotel you’re actually staying at upon check-in.
