As a Chicago local of over 5 years, I can’t recommend a Chicago River tour enough. Chicago has one of the world’s most iconic skylines, and it looks astounding from the water.
There are plenty of interesting attractions to see in Chicago. Booking a boat tour gives you a unique view of the city and is a great way to see the sights. From fancy dinner cruises with live entertainment to party boats with tiki bars and even kayaking, there’s a Chicago River boat tour that’s perfect for you.
I’ve compiled a list of Chicago boat tours, any of which could help make your visit unforgettable!

These boat tours are unique in that they involve contact with an actual piece of Chicago’s heritage. This is a retired fireboat, specifically the Fred A. Busse, Engine 41. Urban Kayaks in River North allows you to explore Chicago’s waters and get some exercise at the same time! You actually get to go kayaking for this one. All experience levels are welcome, as you do get a training session before you start paddling. Once you start, you can go at your own pace.
Rent a kayak at Monroe Harbor (to paddle in the lake) or the Chicago Riverwalk (for the river). You can either paddle the lake or river independently or take part in a guided tour. Options include the historic tour, twilight paddle, fireworks tour, and sunset tour.
