On December 3rd, we’ll reveal our most anticipated piece of content: our annual list of the best places to travel around the world. In past years, our list has been covered in press on six continents, including the likes of Lonely Planet, Forbes Africa, and EuroNews. It is, we think, the best and most innovative annual list of places to travel on the Internet.

Travel Lemming is a popular online travel guide written by our team of local & expert travelers. We are one of the largest travel guides on the planet according to independent rankings like Detailed.com. This year millions of readers, mostly in the US and Canada, will use Travel Lemming’s guides to help plan their trips. They trust us to help them pick where to go, stay, eat, drink & play. It’s a fun job, but somebody’s got to do it 🙂

Like other prominent travel publications, Travel Lemming invests resources in flagship pieces of content meant to showcase our absolute best recommendations. If you’ve ever read the popular “52 Places to Travel” list by The New York Times, you already have a good idea of what we’re talking about.

We have been publishing our own annual list of places to travel (we prefer to call them “emerging destinations”) since 2017.

Each year, this list is our most popular article. Past versions have helped thousands upon thousands of travelers decide where to travel. It gets covered in media around the world and is shared widely on social media. It’s so popular that, depending on Google’s mood on a given day, sometimes it even puts our list in front of the one from The New York Times!

Each year we try to iterate and improve our list from the year before. And this year we have some pretty epic surprises in the works for our audience! We can’t wait to share the list with you 🙂

Candidate destinations are first nominated by one of our writers. Then our editorial board reviews the submissions, solicits additional information from the nominees’ tourist boards as needed, and ultimately collaborates with our team to compile the best list of recommendations we can. The article goes through multiple layers of fact-checking and editorial review before publication. Learn more about our editorial guidelines here.
