Jaya Machu Picchu Boutique Hotel (My Review)
My Review
Jaya Machu Picchu Boutique Hotel is a good hotel if you, like us, need a clean and comfortable place to crash for a night before taking on Machu Picchu. While we didn’t spend much time in the hotel itself, the time we did spend there was comfortable.
The rooftop breakfast in particular was amazing. The hotel has one of the highest rooftops in town, and it was just beautiful to watch the sunrise while we ate breakfast before our ascent to Machu Picchu. I even listed this hotel as my #1 recommendation in my guide for where to stay for visiting Machu Picchu.

In the video, I go over the notable features of the hotel and our room, and share why it’s a good choice for those visiting Machu Picchu. But keep scrolling for more of my written thoughts about our stay.
Our Room – We booked a Deluxe Double Room with a River View and got assigned room 300. The river rooms (the ones that end in “00”) are super spacious and have gorgeous views of the river. I actually think our bed was more of a king, but maybe they pushed a couple double beds together, I don’t know.
The bed was pretty comfortable and we slept fine. The shower and bathroom also did their jobs. I liked that the shower and toilet were separate, which is nice for couples getting ready early in the morning. There was a hairdryer and enough amenities, though nothing overly luxurious.
The highlight would have been the massive jacuzzi, but the water was a bit brown due to sediment (they did warn us about that). I think the jacuzzi would be a nice touch if you were staying here after a big hike like the Inca Trail and you don’t mind the sediment.
There was an empty mini fridge, which I used to store coffee overnight (since we planned to wake up even before breakfast to start getting ready).
The Breakfast – The Jaya Hotel does a stellar job with breakfast. I was really surprised at the size of the buffet, and happy to find out that they cooked made-to-order eggs. The standout feature was the location on the 7th-floor rooftop of the building, featuring some of the best views in Machu Picchu town.
Other Services – Beyond the above, the hotel is pretty simple. They put out tea and hot water downstairs, as is customary in Peru. They stored our luggage during our trip to Machu Picchu. And they have a couple of bathrooms that include showers, in case you wanted to freshen up before your train ride out.
Oh, also, I thought it was really nice that the staff came and met us at the train station to escort us to the hotel (which is only a short distance away anyway).

Overall, Jaya Machu Picchu Boutique Hotel is one of the most modern and well-reviewed hotels in Aguas Calientes. It’s not excessively luxurious, but it is comfortable, well-located, and attended to by excellent staff. I would happily stay here again.
Pros & Cons
✔️ Pros
- Modern, comfortable rooms
- Bed was huge and comfortable
- Best views in town from the rooftop breakfast area
- Staff and service were top notch
- Super close to the train station, and buses to Machu Picchu
❌ Cons
- Jacuzzi bathtub water was a little brown due to local sediment (they did warn us!), and the water wasn’t as warm as I’d have liked
About the Location
The Jaya Machu Picchu Boutique Hotel is located in Aguas Calientes (aka “Machu Picchu town”), a small mountain town that exists basically entirely to service tourists visiting Machu Picchu. The hotel is positioned in the middle of town along the river, just a few steps from the train station.
In front of Jaya Hotel, you’ll find a few restaurants, bars, and shops. The entire town can be traversed on foot within maybe 10-15 minutes, so you are not far from anything. The bus station (where you need to buy your bus tickets for the morning to go up to Machu Picchu) is nearby, across the river.
Overall, the location is perfect (though there aren’t many “bad” locations in Aguas Calientes anyway).
