My Review

Many hotels I’ve stayed at have a similar flavor, but there is nothing quite like the arTree Hotel in Taipei. That’s because the accommodation has designed everything to fit a tree and forest concept, from the decor to the room keys. It isn’t overwhelming; this isn’t a zoo-themed hotel or anything like that. But it’s just the right touches to be interesting and cohesive.

The nature theme in itself could make this stay really fun for families with young children because there are so many unique aspects for kids to check out. Even as an adult, I found myself wandering around the hotel as if it were a treasure hunt, searching for details I didn’t spot initially. It’s also elegant enough to be romantic and a nice hotel for couples visiting Taipei.

This can be a fantastic place to stay in Taipei for anyone on a mid-range budget as well. You get quite a luxury experience with a large room, a king-size bed, and an upscale atmosphere, yet it only costs around $150 per night for the deluxe double room. In my experience, that’s an amazing deal for this quality of stay.

The staff made a lovely impression on me, too. Check-in was super smooth, and there was always someone around to provide recommendations or answer questions. One woman even turned on the lights for me in the dining room while I was taking photos, so I could get the full experience.

I loved how the rooms here felt both spacious yet cozy and tucked away from the rest of the world at the same time. Since they’re completely soundproof, you’re in your own little cave as soon as the door shuts behind you. The bed was insanely comfortable, and I loved the bathroom space for its large shower, bathtub with a view, and big double sinks.

For me, the only downside of the room was that it was built railroad-style, with only one large window on the farthest wall of the bathroom. This setup made the room pretty dark, even during the day. Additionally, there was only a curtain separating the bathroom area from the bedroom – not an actual door. So, it’s worth considering if that would make you uncomfortable.

Out of all the spots I stayed during my Taiwan trip, the arTree Hotel is the one I’d most quickly book again. The price was absolutely unbeatable for how comfortably I slept, the unique aesthetic, and prime location in the quiet Songshan district.

Pros & Cons

✔️ Pros

  • Reasonably priced (less than $150 per night)
  • Detailed, aesthetic ‘tree’ design from the rooms to the lobby
  • Huge, comfortable bed
  • Spacious bathroom w/ tub and massive shower
  • Very friendly staff

❌ Cons

  • Dark rooms due to limited natural light
  • The breakfast was just okay for the price (600 TWD or 19 USD)

About the Location

The Songshan neighborhood surrounding the arTree Hotel was one of my favorite parts of staying here. During my month in Taiwan, I stayed in almost every major Taipei district, and this one was by far the most charming and tranquil, without lacking access to the city center.

It takes less than 30 minutes on public transportation to reach most of Taipei’s other neighborhoods and points of interest like Elephant Mountain, Ximending, and Dihua Street. Raohe Night Market, one of the city’s most popular, is also located in Songshan. Here, you can taste all sorts of local specialties like peanut ice cream rolls, stinky tofu, and black pepper buns for cheap.

Since there aren’t too many other attractions around here besides Raohe, which is even on the outskirts, there is a more chilled atmosphere in Songshan that I really loved. It gave me the chance to experience the fast-paced parts of Taipei and then return to somewhere relaxing.

My Highlights of This Hotel

⭐ The Price – Even though the arTree felt very luxurious and tailored, it cost less than $150 per night. For the quality level, that’s a steal.

⭐ The Aesthetic – This hotel has cultivated a very specific nature and tree theme, but it’s still quite tasteful. Some of the touches will make you stop in awe, and others are just little nods to the hallmark.

⭐ The Location – Located in the peaceful Songshan neighborhood, this is one of the best neighborhoods to stay in Taipei as a visitor because it’s calmer than the city center, and it’s still easy to access the big attractions. Plus, there are few hotels in this area, so snag this amazing one.

Things to Note

⚠️ The Deluxe King Room was spacious, but the bathroom area is only separated from the bedroom by a curtain. This is common in Taipei hotels, but it does limit the natural light in the room and make it a bit less private.

⚠️ Make sure you check out the gorgeous dining space at arTree, even if you’re not having breakfast! My favorite part was the whimsical tree sculptures (built-to-scale) with monkeys swinging from them.
