The Chase Sapphire Preferred card was one of my first credit cards, and is still my favorite beginner-friendly travel credit card. If you’re new to the world of travel and credit card points, it is one of the easiest entry points for starting your journey to getting free travel with points.

How to Use the Chase Sapphire Preferred Bonus Offer for Travel

The main reason I love the Chase Ultimate Rewards points so much is because they are so incredibly flexible. It’s super easy to redeem your Ultimate Rewards points directly for travel, or to transfer them to a variety of partners for even higher value rewards.

Here are my favorite options for redeeming 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points:

• $750 of travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards – they have a really intuitive online portal where you can search most flights. It lets you book directly with points in just a few clicks. Since Chase Sapphire Preferred card holders can redeem points at 1.25 cents per point, that means 60,000 points is equivalent to $750 worth of travel. The whole thing is really easy and intuitive, but I’ve got a step-by-step guide if you need help.
• 60,000 points transferred to airline partners – Chase also lets you transfer Ultimate Rewards points to a variety of transfer partners, including United Mileage Plus and Air Canada’s Aeroplan program. No matter which option you choose, the bonus alone is worth well more than the Chase Sapphire Preferred card’s $95 annual fee.

While the Chase Sapphire Preferred card’s welcome bonus is the big showstopper, there are a lot of other benefits to the Chase Sapphire Preferred card as well.

First, you earn at least a point for every dollar you spend on the card. And you can earn bonus points for certain categories, including:

• 5x for travel booked via the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal
• 2x for other travel purchases
• 3x points for dining
• 3x points for select streaming services
• 3x points on online grocery purchases (excludes Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs)
• 5x points on Lyft rides through March 31, 2025

Second, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card also comes with a variety of other benefits like:

• Complimentary DoorDash DashPass (which gets you $0 delivery fees)
• Complimentary Instacart+ subscription for 6 months
• $10 monthly statement credit from Gopuff (snack and drink delivery) through end of 2023
• 25% more value for points redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards
• No foreign transaction fees

Considering the low annual fee, overall this card is stacked with benefits.

Chase 5/24 Rule

If you are new to the points and credit card world, this won’t be an issue for you. But if you have applied for more than five credit cards in the past 24 months, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with Chase’s 5/24 rule, which restricts applications from individuals who have exceeded those limits.

Responsibly Manage Credit

While I think credit card sign up bonuses can offer incredible value, all that value goes away if you do not know how to responsibly manage credit.

Personally, I always pay off my credit card statement every month so I don’t incur interest charges. And I never spend money I don’t have.
